Valley Metro En Espa�olThe LRGVDC is a voluntary association of local governments formed under Texas Law in 1967 as one of Texas’ 24 regional Council of Governments (COG’s) serving Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy County. The LRGVDC promotes and encourages cooperation among local units of government in order to improve the region’s health, safety, and general welfare and to plan for future development. LRGVDC’s general membership includes: County and Municipal Governments Public Educational Institutions & School Districts Special Purpose Governmental Units Stakeholder Organizations dedicated to the regional, unified development of the region LRGVDC is governed by a twenty-seven (27) member Board of Directors of whom two-thirds are required to be elected officials of the designated boundaries. This Board is primarily responsible to provide direction for LRGVDC programmatic implementation through LRGVDC policies, committees, plans, and programmatic activities. LRGVDC carries out is vast designated duties and responsibilities through four (4) programmatic departments: Community & Economic Development Health & Human Services Public Safety Transportation LRGVDC plays a vital role in implementing specific functions as designations directed by local, state, and federal agencies which include serving as the region’s Economic Development District as designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce - Economic Development Administration. Lower Rio Grande Regional Strategic Plan Designated by the State of Texas as a regional planning organization, LRGVDC facilitates, plans and prepares a five-year comprehensive "Regional Strategic Plan" updated every two years to coincide with Texas Legislative Session.
